What is yoga? Yoga is the most ancient and respected
of natural methods for achieving and maintaining a high level of physical,
mental and emotional health. It is the perfect lifetime fitness program.
The approach to yoga practice is totally different from that of any other
exercise. First you quiet the mind and emotions. then, performing the
exercises, you move slowly, holding each posture for a brief interval
while the mind is fully focused on what the body is feeling. Hatha yoga
also promotes awareness of the spiritual reality of our existence.
What if I'm not flexible?
Yoga works with your body as it is. The postures stretch and flex, taking
your body to new physical limits. Going to your own "personal edge,"
you obtain all of the benefits.
Is it a cardiovascular workout?
Can I lose weight?
With persistence and dedication, you can lose inches while developing
muscle tone over the entire body as well as increasing endurance of the
heart and lungs.
How do I get started?
Just show up for class. Come on an empty stomach. Come ten minutes early,
and be prepared to work and sweat. Women wear leotards or shorts. Men
wear shorts or bathing trunks. Mats and towels are required. Bring water.
Mats and water are also available for purchase. Lockers and showers are
provided.
